Pie à la Joyce in this week's Comfort & Joy

Joyce Maynard frequently weaves food into her tales, both fiction and non-fiction, and has become well-known for her pie making.

It's a skill she learned at her mother's side, and one she professes to have taught to at least a thousand people thus far, including Halle Berry and Josh Brolin.
