Richard and Judy Walck, Palmerton

Rich and I started going steady in seventh grade and all through high school. On New Year's Eve in 1961 into 1962, Rich asked my dad for my hand in marriage. He said Yes, so the next week we went to Young's Jewelry Store and picked out a few rings. But he said we won't get engaged until he had the ring paid for in full. So I didn't know when than would be.

It was July 4, 1962 we were going to a picnic at his parents' house when he pulled over and said, "If you can find your engagement ring in this car, you can have it now!" Well I went crazy opened the glove compartment and there was a beautiful red ring box. I took it out and opened it EMPTY! I looked at him and he said "I guess you didn't find your ring, did you?" and started laughing.

He got me so mad I started ripping that car apart, looking everywhere from top to bottom, hood to trunk, with no luck. I started crying, crying, crying because I couldn't find the ring. He said, "Next time you'll find it."

When we got to his parents' house I pulled down the sun visor before going in to fix my makeup from crying. Under the mirror I saw a piece of Scotch tape sticking out, so I pulled on it and out came my beautiful ring.

We are now married 50 years and looking forward to many more.
