Joint effort nets $5,945 for Wounded Warriors
A joint fundraising effort by the Trinity Praise Band and CrossFit TC Unplugged, both of Lehighton, has raised $5,945 for the Wounded Warriors Project.
The all-day event started with team CrossFit workouts at the Lehighton Rec Center.
Nearly 20 teams, each consisting of eight team members, took part in an intense 15-minute workout that raised money for the Wounded Warriors Project.
"We asked people to go hard and give it their all," said organizer and CrossFit owner and coach Chrissy Mayernik, who organized the workout as an exercise in working together, just as soldiers must do in battle, allowing team members to take turns doing each portion of the workout during the timed event.
Team members came from CrossFit and local gyms, as well as local sports organizations and mom and daughter teams.
The second portion of the fundraiser was a coffeehouse concert by the Trinity Praise Band of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Many CrossFit members also attended the concert, as did veterans from the United Veterans Organization, who presented a check for $200.
Donations will continue to be accepted through May 18, and can be made online at www.crossfittcunplugged.com by clicking on "news and events."
"We would like to thank all the volunteers, participants and contributors that had any part in these events," said praise band organizer Stephen Schweitzer.
"It was an honor to come together as a community and pay respects to our Wounded Warriors while raising some money for this most worthy cause."
