The Barefoot Movement returns to opera house
The Mauch Chunk Opera House, 14 W. Broadway in Jim Thorpe, welcomes Tennessee-based special guests, The Barefoot Movement, back for a second performance this year, at 8 p.m. Sept. 4.
Reminiscent of the Dixie Chicks, The Barefoot Movement is anything but your standard bluegrass band, despite their 20-something ages.
Their styles stretch from traditional Appalachian music to bluegrass, folk, country and pop, thrilling the audience with their narrative lyrics, tight three-part harmonies, hot instrumental riffs and catchy vocal hooks.
The Barefoot Movement's unique blend of skill, innovation and charisma has earned them appearances at festivals across the country, a coveted place on tour with The Milk Carton Kids, and performances with luminaries like The Carolina Chocolate Drops, Steve Earle, and Del McCoury.
The U.S. government even joined the mix, selecting them in 2014 as cultural ambassadors for its international Arts envoy program.
Jim Thorpe musician and bandleader, John David Ambrose, will open the show. His set will be marked by popular favorites and stirring originals.
Tickets are available 24/7 on the opera house website, www.mcohjt.com, by visiting SoundCheck Records in downtown Jim Thorpe or by calling 570-325-4009.
