Middle school music dept. presents concert

The Lehighton Area Middle School music department will present a free concert at 10 a.m. July 9 in the high school auditorium.

The sixth- and eighth-grade combined band will perform several pieces including "Cleveland Rocks" from the "Drew Carey Show" and the rock/pop hit "Hey Baby." Selected clarinet, saxophone, flute and low brass students will be featured during the small ensemble portion of the concert.

The highlight of the morning will be the first performance of the beginner band. This group of students, who only started to learn to play an instrument a couple weeks ago, will perform in public for the first time.

The beginners will demonstrate what they have learned so far in their brief musical careers.

Bryan Buffington, the high school director of bands, will narrate this portion of the program.

After the concert, there will be a simple reception in the lobby to celebrate the students' accomplishments.
