Winery hosts local author for book signing and pairing
Galen Glen Winery, 255 Winter Mountain Drive, Andreas, will host local author Sharon Sanders for a book signing for her book, "Cooking Up an Italian Life" from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
The book was recently named one of the "Top Ten Italian Cooking and Wine Books" by About.com. Sanders has written more than two dozen books, many during her time as an editor at Rodale.
She has also contributed to Cooking Light and other national publications. She was a longtime staff reporter/deputy features editor at the Chicago Sun Times.
In addition to writing, Sharon hosts Italian cooking classes in her Lehigh Valley home kitchen and has taught at Sur la Table, Williams-Sonoma and food and wine festivals across the nation.
While Sharon was living and working in Tuscany, she met and married her husband, Walter.
She and Walter host intimate group immersion experiences in April and October at Villa Pipistrelli, near Siena, Tuscany.
She is a Certified Culinary Professional and a member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals.
"For me, cooking is an act of daily grace," says Sanders, "the most important gift I can give myself and those I love. I cook simple dishes with big flavors, prepared from local ingredients."
During the event visitors to the winery will be able to enjoy a petite pairing of Sharon's Risotto with Asparagus and Shrimp paired with GrĂƒÂƒĂ‚Â¼ner Veltliner, an Austrian grape varietal that Galen Glen pioneered planting in the U.S. in 2003.
GrĂƒÂƒĂ‚Â¼ner has the distinction of being a wine that can be paired with asparagus.
While supplies last, visitors may purchase a copy of Sanders' book and have it inscribed and autographed.
This is just one of many events planned during Galen Glen's 20th Anniversary and the Summer of Gruner 2015.
