Aubrey Blasiak had her sights set on scoring 1,000 points for a long time.

And with her selfless attitude, work ethic, and natural talent, it’s no surprise to anyone that Blasiak accomplished what she set out to do.

In the fourth quarter on Feb. 2 at Tamaqua, Blasiak watched the back-end of her two foul shots fall through the net. The buzzer sounded, the crowd went crazy, and the Indian senior notched her 1,000th career point, as Lehighton won a tough Schuylkill League battle against the Raiders, 59-55.

“It was really great,” Blasiak said after the game. “I couldn’t even believe I did it during the game. It’s just such an amazing feeling, and I’m still up in the air about it. It was a doubleheader and the stands were back.

“I was just really happy to share it with my team in this environment. I’m just really happy that I got to share this milestone with Sky (Faust). It’s a really great feeling.”

Blasiak has poured in 334 points and 37 three-pointers this season. She bumped up her scoring average from last year (11 points per game) to over 14 per contest this season.

Blasiak constantly credited her team, including her friend and other half of the Tribe’s dynamic duo, Skylynn Faust.

“She came in freshman year, and we both set a goal at one of the first practices that we both started varsity,” said Blasiak. “We were like, ‘We’re both getting 1,000 points’. We pushed each other every single year and every single practice.

“We bonded really well. She’s just a great person on and off the court. She’s awesome.”

This season marked Lehighton head coach Joe Berezwick’s first year with the program after spending 18 years at Tamaqua. He had nothing but high praise for his star guard.

“I’m just so happy for her,” Berezwick said. “I’ve never been in that situation — to know what it’s like to be a 1,000-point scorer — but being her coach, I knew how stressful it’s been down the stretch. I was happy with how she was able to handle that.

“Aubrey and Sky have that knack of knowing where each other is at, so they make a good one-two punch. I’m just so proud of her.”

Blasiak became the eighth Lehighton girls basketball player in history to reach the milestone. Although she enjoyed her personal success, her focus has always been on the team.

“We’re not done yet,” she said “We’re focused on districts.”
