Christy to return for Pa. hearing
Shawn R. Christy, whose flight from justice took him through six states before he was captured in Ohio on Sept. 21, will be returned to Pennsylvania to face federal charges.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Kathleen B. Burke of Akron, Ohio, on Monday issued a removal order, which means Christy will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
The marshals will bring him back to Pennsylvania to face charges in U.S. Middle District Court in Scranton.
It is not known when he’ll be brought back.
Christy, 26, of McAdoo, was on the run for three months, pursued by local, state and federal authorities since June 12 after failing to appear for jury selection for his trial on charges he attacked the McAdoo mayor with a stick during an argument about snow removal.
Christy added to his woes when he posted on his Facebook page threatening to shoot in the head President Donald Trump and Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli, and threatening to kill police.
As he awaits extradition, Christy remains in jail in Ohio without bail.
On Monday, he waived a detention hearing before Burke, agreeing to remain in federal custody.
Christy was caught around 4:30 p.m. Sept. 21 hiding in a ravine near Mansfield, Ohio, after eluding authorities for months, the last five days in Ohio.
He was captured about 6 miles from where he abandoned a utility truck he had allegedly stolen from Skitco Iron Works in Hazleton.
Christy was armed with a gun and a large knife when he was taken into custody, said Deputy U.S. Marshal Anne Murphy of the Northern District of Ohio.
Christy’s flight took him through several states, including Maryland, Virginia and New York. He traveled by stealing vehicles, weapons and food.
In August, Christy gravitated back to the Hometown area, where he is suspected of breaking into Skipper Dipper’s ice cream shop and was captured on surveillance video, eating from a cup.
