Open house, tours at old Eldred school
The Eldred Township Historical Society is meeting Tuesday at the 1855 One-Room School, located at 485 Church Road in Kunkletown.
The school will be open for tours.
The meeting will be brief, leaving lots of time to tour the school.
This is the first time that the school has been opened for an evening event and the first time the historical society has held its meeting there.
The school will be open from 6 to 8 p.m. for tours. The meeting is at 6:30 p.m., and expected to last 30 minutes. A hex sign collection is on display.
The school will also have an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday. This event will be co-hosted by the Lenape Nation.
Every four years, the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania paddle down the Delaware River and stop at various towns for treaty signing ceremonies with local groups and residents. This took place earlier this year, but the tribal council has agreed to conduct a treaty signing at the school during the open house. They will also have artifacts on display.
Admission is free for both events. The building has no heat or bathrooms at the school so plan accordingly. For specific information about these two events call Renee at 917-582-7010.
