Candidates sought for Carbon Fair Queen, Junior Miss
The Carbon County Fair is looking for young ladies to participate in the 2015 Queen and Junior Miss Programs.
Applications are available at www.carboncountyfair.com, or call 570-325-8685. Applications must be postmarked by June 27. There is no application fee.
To participate in either contest, contestants must reside in Carbon County or West Penn Township in Schuylkill County. Fair Queen contestants must be a female at least age 16, but no older than 20 as of June 1.
New this year is a Junior Miss program. Contestants for the Junior Miss must be 13, but no older than 15, as of June 1.
Neither program is a beauty contest. Contestants will be judged on an essay, personal interview and speech presentation.
Judges will look for the candidate who will best represent the fair, while they effectively promote agriculture, although involvement in an agriculture program is not a requirement.
Organizers emphasize that the fair is about our youth. The Queen and Junior Miss programs keep teens involved in the county fair.
The Fair Queen and Junior Miss will be crowned at the opening ceremony of the Carbon County Fair at 6 p.m. Aug. 3. The teens selected will receive scholarships.
Jordan Behrens of Jim Thorpe, the 2014 Carbon County Fair Queen, competed at the 2015 Fair Queen Pageant in Hershey in January.
The fair will be held Aug. 3-8 on Little Gap Road in Palmerton.
