TIPs for Treacherous trails
State Sen. John Yudichak posted an informational pamphlet with safety tips for Glen Onoko visitors on his website at https://bit.ly/2Nw2EeJ.
According to the pamphlet, “Sections of all trails are treacherous. Hazards include loose rocks, slippery surfaces, and exposed roots. Injury and death have occurred.”
Safety tips include:
• Use proper footwear. Sturdy hiking boots should be worn to minimize trips and falls.
• Know your physical limitations. All persons should be in good physical condition to hike trails.
• Avoid drugs and alcohol. Use of these substances greatly increases the chance of injury. The use of drugs and alcohol is illegal on state game lands.
• Stay on marked trails. Numerous side-trails are located adjacent to the main trails and should be avoided.
• Obey posted signs. Warning signs and physical barriers may be placed by the Pennsylvania Game Commission to alert trail users of hazardous conditions and to exclude hikers from areas known to be particularly dangerous.
