‘Everyone should get involved’ Lehighton woman enjoying senior games
Jane Nicolai showed off her skills during the 2019 Carbon County Senior Games miniature golf and bowling events.
“I used to golf,” Nicolai, of Lehighton, said.
When she lived in Montgomery County, she belonged to a golf club, but a broken wrist forced her to turn in her driver for a putter on the miniature golf course.
The broken wrist hasn’t slowed Nicolai down.
“I’m a bowler,” she said. “I can’t hit the ball far on the course anymore but I can still bowl.”
The 80-plus-year-old is in a bowling league in Slatington and enjoys being able to do it.
As for the senior games, Nicolai couldn’t say enough.
“I moved here about six years ago and this is my fourth time doing the games,” she said.
“I enjoy it. I enjoy the people. I enjoy the senior games very much,” she said.
When asked if it was more the competition or the social opportunities that draws her to the senior games, Nicolai said, “It’s just being here and being able to participate.
“If you don’t do this, you’re losing out. Everyone should get involved if they are able to.”
