Traffic stop leads to drug arrests

A traffic stop led to the arrest of the driver and passenger on drug charges and related offenses.

State police at Lehighton said Derek Dale Furry, 21, of 274 Harvard Ave., Palmerton, was stopped at 8:55 p.m. Friday along Little Gap Road, near Blue Mountain Road, in Lower Towamensing Township.

Through an investigation it was learned that Furry and his passenger, Jacob Richard Anthony, 18, of 3995 Fireline Road, Palmerton, were under the influence of a controlled substance.

Furry was arrested and charged with DUI of a controlled substance. Anthony was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Furry submitted to a blood draw at the Palmerton hospital.
