2 hurt in Polk Township crash
A 17-year-old driver from Brodheadsville and his passenger were injured in a one-vehicle crash at 10:42 p.m. May 26 on Long Mountain Road in Polk Township, according to state police at Lehighton.
Police said the driver, who was not identified, and passenger Nathan T. Waked, 18, of Easton, sustained minor injuries.
Police said the teen was driving a 2010 Dodge Avenger south on Long Mountain Road and was following a vehicle too closely when he attempted to pass the vehicle in a no passing zone. The vehicle failed to negotiate a right curve in the roadway, traveled onto the northbound lane and struck a tree.
Both occupants in the vehicle were transported to a medical facility in the West End Ambulance.
Police said the driver was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.
