2-month old dies in crash on Turnpike

An infant died after being involved in a crash Thursday night on the Turnpike in Carbon County.

Two-month old John Simko Jr, of Dubois, Clearfield County, died as a result of the crash that occurred around 10:29 p.m. on I-476 Southbound at mile marker 88.8.

Simko was a passenger in a vehicle involved in the crash with the median and a tractor trailer.

He was pronounced dead at 1:14 a.m. Friday at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.

An autopsy performed Friday determined the cause of death to be blunt force head injuries due to the crash.

The manner of death has been ruled accidental.

In addition to the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office & Forensics Center, the death is being investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police — Pocono barracks.
