Woman charged with DUI

Published December 01. 2009 05:00PM

A Frackville woman was cited by Tamaqua police Thanksgiving Day after she made a wrong turn that had her driving on the railroad track bed.

An officer was on patrol at 3:03 a.m. in the vicinity of the Five Points when he saw a red Jeep southbound on Railroad Street. The Jeep made a right turn onto Broad Street then turned again at the railroad crossing making for a very bumpy ride.

The Jeep was stopped and the driver identified as Jamie Buriak, 23, of Frackville. The officer detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Ms. Buriak. She was given, and failed, several field sobriety tests.

A portable breath test was administered, registering a .20 blood alcohol content.

Buriak was cited for driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol.
