Prothonotary's report
A total of 351 cases were started in November in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the cases is as follows:
Assessment appeals, 8; civil actions, 76; custody complaints, 16; district justice appeals, 6; divorce complaints,14; ejectments, 2; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 33; land use appeal, 1; license appeal, 1; mandamus action, 1; protection from abuse petitions, 24; quiet title actions, 2; tax sales, 3; judgments, 148; miscellaneous, 1; and stipulations/waivers of liens, 15. The office staff also received and processed 43 applications for U.S. Passports.
Behrens reported she turned over to the Carbon County General Fund on Dec. 1 the sum of $34,356.32, representing receipts generated in the office last month. A breakdown of that funding includes: prothonotary's fees, $28,312.61; PFA Surcharge, courts, $76; PFA Surcharge, Sheriff, $79; custody fees, $800; data processing charges, $5,052.10; and interest income, $36.61.
The prothonotary also remitted $2,138.13 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $33.60 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,478.14 was deposited in the Prothonotary's Automation Fund for future automation needs in the office.
