Several thefts occur in Mahoning
Thieves have been busy in Mahoning Township, according to a report released by Chief of Police Ken Barnes.
On Sunday, Nov. 28, at about 1:27 p.m., police were dispatched to the Chiu Kwan Kitchen in the Carbon Plaza Mall for a report of a theft. A 41 year old male resident of Stroudsburg, who is wheelchair bound, was eating at the restaurant with his caretaker.
The male victim went to use the restroom and took with him a zip lock type pouch or bag. He then returned to his table and about 10 minutes later realized he had left his bag in the restroom.
Upon going back to retrieve it the male discovered it was stolen. A search of the area and trash containers in and around the restaurant by the responding police officer and the male's caretaker did not locate the pouch/bag.
The pouch/bag contained an ATM card, a cell phone, $300 in currency, state public welfare Access Card, and a check from the Salvation Army.

A resident of the 200 block of Thomas Jefferson Road reported to police on Sunday, Nov. 22, at about 10:45 p.m. that person(s) forcibly entered a vehicle parked in the driveway by smashing out the drivers side window and stealing a purse containing a checkbook and prescribed medication.
On Sunday, Nov. 22, at about 2:20 a.m., police were dispatched to Wal-Mart, 1204 Blakeslee Blvd. East, for a report of a female in custody for retail theft.
Stacy L. Beher, 23, of Gypsy Hill Garden, Lehighton, was cited for retail theft involving $30.29 worth of merchandise.
On Tuesday, Nov. 24, at about 3:09 p.m., a resident of Chapel Drive reported to police that between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., person(s) unknown forcibly entered the residence via a basement door.
Cash was taken from a safe in the home.
On Sunday, Nov. 29, at about 9:44 p.m., police were dispatched to a one vehicle rollover accident on Gilberts Hill Road near the East Penn Township border.
A 1997 Buick Riviera, driven by a Mahlon Gene Smith, 57, of Sunridge Road, Lehighton, went off the roadway, up an embankment, and flipped over. Smith refused medical treatment at the scene.
Police said Smith failed preliminary sobriety tests at the scene. He submitted to a withdrawal of blood to determine an exact BAC (Blood Alcohol Content). The accident is still under investigation.
