Summit Hill
Food pantry
The Summit Hill Food Pantry will be open for the distribution of food on Monday, Dec. 21, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the U.C.C. Church. Please bring your blue bags.
Party for youths
American Legion Post 316, Summit Hill, will hold its traditional Christmas party for the children of the community on Saturday, Dec. 19, from 1-3 p.m.
Santa Claus will arrive at about 2 o'clock and will distribute toys to the children.
Refreshments will be served.
Bloodmobile planned
A bloodmobile sponsored by St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will be located in the church hall on Wednesday, Dec. 16, from 2-7 p.m. A goal of 35 pints has been set.
The event is being held for the benefit of the Miller-Keystone Blood Center, which is the only blood supplier to our local hospitals (Blue Mountain Health System, Lehighton and Palmerton, and the St. Luke's Hospital and Health Network (Miner's Memorial, Coaldale).
Borough council
The monthly meeting of the Summit Hill Borough Council will be held tonight at 7 o'clock in the borough hall. Joseph Weber, president, will be in charge of the session.
Pastoral assistant
Sr. Mary Florence Hawe, former pastoral assistant and longtime educator at Summit Hill Catholic schools, is currently residing at the Sisters of Mercy Convent in southeastern Pa. Parishioners and friends of Sister wanting to remember her with Christmas wishes can mail them to her at 515 Montgomery Ave., Merion, Pa. 19066.
Vote for Frank
Summit Hill native Frank Carulli is among 19 racing analysts nationwide listed on Thoroughbred Times' poll for "Best of 2009." Carulli is the racing analyst and oddsmaker for Pimlico and Laurel Park racetracks in Maryland.
To vote for the 1980 Panther Valley High School graduate, go to thoroughbredtimes.com and click on the Best of 2009 link near the top of the Web site, and complete the multiple-choice answers. Carulli appears on Question 19.
Frank is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Corky Carulli of town.
Lansford
Borough council
The Lansford Borough Council holds regular monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Lansford Community Center, 1 W. Ridge St. The next meeting is scheduled for Dec. 9.

The Nesquehoning clergy will once again treat the children to Happy Meals at McDonald's on Dec. 29. There will be a lot of treats and all one needs to do is pick up a coupon for entry from your pastor.
