Senior news
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart.
Last week's meeting included the annual Christmas party and was attended by 84 members. Eleanor Roberts offered the invocation, entitled "We Are Thankful For Everything." Tables were decorated with poinsettia plants in honor of the occasion.
Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The meeting room is handicap accessible.
South Ward news
The South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet at 7 p.m. on Dec. 17. The meeting will be held at 230 Race St.
St. Peter's
The Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include a Joyful Noise Offering for the Marine Corps League's Toys for Tots Program. Sunday school will meet at 10:15 a.m. to rehearse for the Christmas musical.
Also on Sunday, those with speaking parts for the musical will rehearse at 11:15 a.m. The Confirmation Class will meet at 1 p.m. and the Cub Scout Den will meet at 5 p.m.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, Food CoOp at 9 a.m.; Thursday, Prayer group meets at 5 p.m. and Brownies will meet at 6:30 p.m.
The Choirs rehearse on Thursdays. Next week's schedule will include: Cherubs at 6:30 p.m.; Juniors at 7 p.m.; and Senior Choir at 7:45 p.m.
United Methodist
The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Salem United Methodist Church and at the
10:45 a.m. worship service in First United Methodist Church.
Both churches are sponsoring a Christmas Festival of Music, which will be held this Sunday, at 6:30 p.m., at First UMC, 124 West Broad Street. Refreshments will be served following the Festival. Everyone is welcome.
SS. Peter and Paul
The Holy Name Society of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church will meet at 8 p.m. this Thursday, The meeting will be preceded by a Mass, which will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Street sweeper
The Borough of Tamaqua has completed street sweeping operations for this year. This includes the permanently posted streets. Information concerning the restart of operations will be published in the TIMES NEWS in Spring 2010.
