Traffic stop leads to arrest of fugitive

A traffic stop in Monroe County led to the arrest of a fugitive from justice in New York state.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said officers stopped a vehicle about 1:34 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, along SR611 in Tobyhanna, Coolbaugh Township, for motor vehicle code violations. At the stop the driver identified himself as Albert Soto.

Officers detected the odor of alcohol coming from the passenger side. The driver also appeared to be intoxicated and agreed to take field sobriety tests. After he exited the vehicle a search of his person was conducted. Found was a New York state benefit card with the name Luis Olmo, 38, of Bronx, N.Y., on it. A check was made of that name and it was revealed he was wanted by New York state probation and parole for a parole violation.

Olmo failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence (DUI). He refused to submit to a blood test.

A passenger in the vehicle was identified as Diane Duarte, 47, of Tobyhanna. She consented to a search of the vehicle and found between the driver seat and center console was a small knotted plastic bag which contained crack cocaine.

Olmo was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, false indentification to law enforcement, DUI and arrest prior to requisition. He was committed to the county prison in Snydersville on the New York warrant with the other charges pending.

Additional charges are pending, police said.
