Two supervisors, solicitor honored for years of service
Two Mahoning Township supervisors and the board's solicitor were honored for their years of service during last evening's board meeting at the township building.
"We want to wish you well in your next position as county judge and thank you for the years of service to our township from February 2004 until December 2009. Congratulations," said Chairperson Pat Snyder upon presenting a plaque to Mahoning Township Solicitor Steve Serfass during the meeting. Serfass is the newest judge-elect to the Carbon County Court of Common Pleas, but before his election this year he has served as Mahoning Township's Solicitor since February 2004.
Serfass said in comments after the presentation, "I would like to publicly thank the board of supervisors for all their support and I appreciated the opportunity to serve them and the community and it has been a pleasure." Serfass' resignation was unanimously but regretfully accepted earlier in the meeting. Following that vote, the board unanimously elected to appoint attorney Tom Nanovic as the new solicitor beginning December 11th.
Snyder then presented a plaque to township supervisor Bruce Steigerwalt for stepping in and serving as a supervisor in April after the resignation of former supervisor Dawn Blocker. Steigerwalt thanked the board for the opportunity to work with them as well. He did not run for election this past year and just completed Blocker's term.
Vice Chairman John Wieczorek then presented a plaque to Snyder on behalf of the township for her service to Mahoning Township as a supervisor and this past year as the chairperson. "Thank you for your service to the township," he said upon the presentation. Snyder lost her bid for a second term as a supervisor in November.
