Crashes probed
State police at Lehighton reported on several crashes investigated by troopers last week.
A three-vehicle accident was reported about 4:13 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10, along SR248 at Club Road, in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Troopers said David A. Charbonnier III, 20, of Lehighton, was driving a Chevrolet Cavalier eastbound and entered the westbound lane and struck a Honda CRV driven by Caitlin Miller, 24, of Tamaqua, and then a Subaru Forester driven by Thomas Newton, 53, of Lehighton.
No injuries were reported. Damages were disabling to the Cavalier and Honda and minor to the Subaru. Assisting troopers were volunteers from the Aquashicola Fire Company.
A crash was reported on Dec. 8 about 10:28 p.m. along Hahn's Dairy Road, in Lower Towamensing Township. Troopers said Kim Worthey, 51, of Lehighton, was driving a 2008 Suzuki SX4 westbound when the vehicle went off the road and struck an embankment. After impact with the embankment the car traveled back into the westbound lane and came to rest.
Worthey was not injured. Troopers said she was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
A mishap occurred about 10:15 p.m. on Dec. 7 along Fireline Road near Maple Drive, in Lower Towamensing Township. Troopers said Daryl D. Dottery Jr., 19, of Palmerton, was driving a 2000 Nissan Altima eastbound and attempted to negotiate a curve. Dottery was going too fast and could not control the car, troopers said, and it went onto the berm and struck a large rock.
Dottery was injured, troopers noted. He was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.
A one-vehicle crash was reported on Dec. 8 about 10:52 p.m. along Penn Forest Road in Towamensing Township. Troopers said Davis M. Cody, 19, of Palmerton, was driving a Chevrolet Lumina southbound during adverse weather conditions when the car left the road and struck a fence. It then continued on striking a tree head-on. After impact with the tree the car traveled back onto the road and came to rest across both lanes of travel.
Cody sustained a minor injury and was taken to the Palmerton Hospital for treatment. Damages were major to the front end of the Lumina.
Troopers cited Cody for driving too fast for conditions.
Another one-vehicle crash occurred about 7:15 p.m. on Dec. 10 along SR248, a half-mile south of the Palmerton exit. Troopers said Martin A. Herr, 32, of Slatington, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS westbound when he lost control while negotiating a left turn due to icy conditions. The car spun around and crashed into a guide rail on the right shoulder.
Herr was not injured but damages were disabling to the vehicle.
Troopers probed a crash about 6:39 p.m. on Dec. 9 along Fire Line Road in Parryville. Troopers said Arthur L. Strohl IV, 19, of Parryville, was driving a 1995 Ford F350 truck northbound while Charles E. Bonner III, 51, of Palmerton, was operating a 2003 Chevrolet Silveraldo truck southbound. As both drivers attempted to negotiate a curve in the road the Ford went onto the west edge causing Strohl to lose control. The Ford struck snow and a utility pole before spinning counter-clockwise and hitting a trailer that was being towed by the Chevrolet.
Strohl and two 17-year-old passengers and Bonner were all not injured. The Ford had to be towed from the scene.
