A movement to make slacks acceptable attire for high schools is underway in Jim Thorpe. Slacks already are permitted in other area high schools including Lehighton Area, Palmerton Area, and Panther Valley. The petition is by Jim Thorpe Area girls. The petition states, "They are to be worn during the cold months for the sake of keeping warm," said student Denise Bennick. She added, "We girls, with our skirts and nylons, suffer from the cold, blustery wind and snow of the winter months."
