Schuylkill crashes

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on two crashes along Schuylkill County roadways that were investigated by troopers over the past weekend.

A two-vehicle crash was reported about 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, along SR61 in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Jack G. Harwick, 83, of Orwigsburg, was southbound in a 2000 GMC Jimmy while Brenda A. Croley, 45, of Schuylkill Haven, was northbound operating a 2006 Toyota Sienna.

Troopers said Harwick was turning left and turned directly into the path of Croley. She applied her brakes and attempted to avoid a collision but could not with the front of her vehicle hitting the passenger side of the Jimmy. Upon impact the Jimmy rolled over onto the driver's side.

Harwick was injured and taken by ambulance to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. Croley was not injured. Troopers said Harwick was cited for vehicle turning left.

A crash was reported on Saturday, Dec. 12, about 1:36 p.m. along SR645 at the intersection with SR443, in Pine Grove Township. Troopers said Ralph J. Gassert, 90, of Pine Grove, was attempting a left turn from 645 onto 443 in a 1980 Ford Custom pickup truck, and pulled into the path of a 2001 Toyota Echo driven by Marlene M. Ney, 65, of Pine Grove. The right front corner of the truck hit the driver's side of the Toyota.

Ney sustained a minor injury and was transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center East, Pottsville. Gassert was not injured.
