Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Dec. 8 at the Ryan Township Fire Company for the annual Christmas party. Dinner for the 52 members in attendance was provided by A + C Catering.

Activities included a gift exchange. Tables were decorated with poinsettia plants, which were then awarded to several members. Favors were provided by Eleanor Schmerfeld. Members were provided with candy through the generosity of Dolores Walck, Louise Horn, Alberta Corch and Shirley Becker.

The group's next meeting will be at 1 p.m., on March 9, at the fire company. Anyone 50 years old or older is welcome to join.

SS. Peter and Paul

Activities for this week in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church will include choir rehearsals on Wednesday. The Youth Choir rehearsal will be from 6-7 p.m. and the Adult Choir will rehearse from 7 to 8 p.m.

TOPS

The Tamaqua Chapter of Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) meets every Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m., in the Tamaqua Salvation Army Community Center, 105 W. Broad St. The meeting includes a short business session and a program.

The annual Christmas party was held Dec. 2 at La Dolce Casa Restaurant. Nancy Barron offered the invocation. Leader Bernie Kunkel offered holiday wishes and Frances Houser provided games for members to enjoy. Ann Unger was awarded the door prize.

The Dec. 16 meeting will be the final event for 2009. Meetings will resume on Jan. 6, 2010.

Anyone interested in learning more may attend the meeting without obligation.

Recycling

Wednesday is the day for curbside recycling pickup for all residents of Tamaqua.

All recyclable items must be placed in the containers issued to each borough household. Any other containers, such as plastic bags and cardboard boxes, will be emptied and left behind.

Anyone who needs a recycling container may contact borough hall at (570) 668-3444.

Collection bins for cardboard have been moved to the Tamaqua Transfer Station on Sewage Treatment Plant Road.

Collection bins for newspaper can be found at the Tamaqua Borough Garage on East Broad Street.
