Schuylkill man jailed for assault
A Schuylkill County man was jailed on Monday, Dec. 14, for an assault incident that occurred on Sunday.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Heckmat Sobhi Ammar, 20, of W. Market St., Orwigsburg, was arrested at his apartment Monday about 2:30 p.m. on a warrant charging him with aggravated assault. He was arraigned before District Judge James Ferrier, of Orwigsburg, and committed to the county prison in Pottsville in lieu of $10,000 cash bail.
According to troopers on Sunday about 5:45-5:50 p.m. Ammar and other unidentified males went to the area of 59-61 Railroad St., Cressona, and pulled Edward Mark Emerich Jr., 18, of 1057 Indian Cove, Auburn, out of his parked vehicle onto the roadway. They then began to punch and kick Emerich, causing injuries.
Troopers said Ammar and the others got into the their car and proceeded to drive toward Emerich. The right front area of Ammar's car struck Emerich, pinching him between his parked car and the suspects' vehicle. The victim then fell to the ground and Ammar fled the scene.
