One injured in Carbon crash
One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred about 5:26 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16, along SR903 at the intersection with Maury Road, in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. It was one of two accidents probed by state police at Lehighton this week.
Troopers said Herbert J. Gasker, 29, of Lehighton, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander southbound while Paul Moscatiello, 36, of Jim Thorpe, was northbound driving a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am. Troopers said Gasker attempted to make a left turn onto Maury Road and entered into the path of Moscatiello.
The Grand Am struck the Uplander head-on in the northbound lane, troopers said.
Troopers said a passenger with Gasker, Michael E. Neeb, 28, of Lehighton, was injured and taken by Lehighton EMS unit to St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill. Gasker and passenger Michael D. Magyar, 31, of Lehighton, along with Moscatiello and his passenger, Sage Moscatiello, 2, same address as the driver, and in a child safety seat, were all not injured.
Penn Forest Fire Company volunteers assisted at the scene. Damages were disabling to both vehicles.
Troopers cited Gasker for vehicle turning left.
The second crash occurred about 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15, along SR115 in Ross Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Owen R. Howell, 86, of Tannersville, attempted to make a left turn onto SR2012 and failed to yield the right-of-way to John C. Vangorden, 31, of Saylorsburg. Howell's 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt struck Vangorden's 2005 Peterbilt tow truck.
No one was injured. Troopers cited Howell for stop signs and yield signs.
