Methodist Charge

The schedule for the Coaldale/Summit Hill United Methodist Charge for Sunday, Dec. 20, is as follows:

Worship services will be held at 9 a.m. in the Summit Hill United Methodist Church and at 11 a.m. in the Coaldale United Methodist Church. The Rev. Burgess Gordon, pastor, will officiate at both services. The adult Sunday school will meet at 9:45 a.m. in the Coaldale church.

The charge's Christmas Eve services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 24, at 6 p.m. in the Summit Hill church and at 7:30 p.m. in the Coaldale church, with Pastor Gordon officiating.

Presbyterian church

The schedule for the Hope of Christ Presbyterian Church, formerly the First Presbyterian Church of the Panther Valley, Summit Hill, for Sunday, Dec. 13, is as follows:

Sunday school and adult Bible study, 9 a.m.; and worship service, 10:30 a.m.

Food distribution

The Summit Hill Food Pantry conducts a monthly distribution of food boxes to the needy in the community. Anyone in need of the assistance, or knowing of individuals or families who do, is asked to contact Rose Marie Armon, (570) 645-3604, or Emma Weaver, 645-7348.

The pantry, a non-denominational entity, is always in need of donations and manual assistance. To donate items or your time, contact the above persons as well.

Lansford

Chimney boxes

The Outreach Group of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, recently set up a "Chimney Boxes" display in the church for parishioners and/or guests to donate items that will be given to the residents of the Hometown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The group will be wrapping the gifts for the elderly on Saturday, Dec. 19, beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the social hall of the church. Volunteers are welcome to assist with the project.

Choir rehearsal

The choir of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, will rehearse on Sunday, Dec. 20, at 6 p.m.

Trinity Lutheran Church

On Sunday, Dec. 20 morning worship will be held at 9 a.m. immediately followed by Sunday School at 10 a.m.

Thursday, Dec. 24, the Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion service will be held at 8 p.m.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

Nesquehoning

Zion Lutheran Church

Morning worship will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday. The sermon title this week is "Old or Young, The Song is Sung." There is also a children's sermon presented each week. For more information, contact the Rev. John Hazel at (570) 645-3469.

Members will meet at the church on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 10 a.m. to decorate the church.

There will be coffee hour on Sunday. Everyone is welcome downstairs for food and refreshments immediately following the service. Steve and Betty Higgins are sponsoring the coffee hour this month.

Christmas Eve at Zion Lutheran

Christmas Eve services will be held at Zion at 9 p.m. The theme for the services will be "Shine O Everlasting Light" and will include carols, candles and Holy Communion.

The Financial Secretary is closing the financial books on December 27. It is requested that all financial obligations for 2009 be fulfilled by that date.

Rev. Hazel will be on vacation Dec. 26 through Jan. 2, 2010.
