Vehicle rams rear of school bus
A vehicle rammed into the rear of a school bus causing serious injuries to the driver. State police at Frackville said the crash occurred about 3:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16, along Hazle St., in Delano Township, Schuylkill County.
Trooeprs said Frederick P. Ziats, 78, of Mahanoy City, was driving a 1991 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck westbound when he ran into the rear of a 2010 Bluebird Mahanoy Area School District bus driven by Brenda Marie Wilner, 43, of Mahanoy City. Troopers said the bus was stopped because it had just dropped of its last passenger.
After impact the pickup truck drifted backwards into a tree along the north berm. Ziats was injured and flown by LifeFlight helicopter to the Geisinger Medical Center, in Danville. Wilner was taken to St. Catherine's Medical Center, in Ashland for evaluation, troopers said.
The pickup truck sustained moderate damages and had to be towed from the scene. The bus had light damages and was driven from the scene.
