Colts, Wreckers nab boys basketball wins

Marian and Weatherly picked up wins in boys basketball, while Lehighton suffered losses in boys and girls hoops in its Mountain Valley Conference openers.

In other action, Pleasant Valley dropped a MVC boys contest to East Stroudsburg North, 49-40, but no boxscore was received.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Lehighton-PM East

The Cardinals scored 33 points in the third quarter to hand the Indians a 84-32 setback in the Mountain Valley Conference opener for both.

The Indians managed to score just 13 points in the second half (one in the fourth period) as they fell to 0-3 on the season.

Kyheim Hall led the Cardinals with 15 points, while Kamall Richards added 13, Dave Garcia 10 and Lamont Tillery 10.

D.J. Rossino had 12 points, while Aaron Szacska added 10 for the Indians.

Marian-MMI

Chris Barletta finished with 21 points and the Colts opened up a 15-point halftime lead and never looked back in a non-league 66-50 win over the Preppers (1-3).

Drew Sherkness also hit doubles for Marian (3-1, 1-0) finishing with 14 points.

Ryan Forte had 15 points for MMI and Connor McNelis added 14.

Marian also won the JV game by a 55-20 score as Corey Quick had 16 points and Anthony Pilla added 11.

Shenandoah-Weatherly

Keith Barna had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Wreckers defeated the Blue Devils 67-58.

Barna also added nine assists and six steals to finish off the night.

Brendan Rowan had a game high 24 points for Weatherly, while Nathan Pfeiffer added 13.

Merva finished with 17 points for the Devils.

Shenandoah Valley managed a win in the JV game by a 57-22 score. Jeremy Holland had 13 points for the Wreckers.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

PM East-Lehighton

Pocono Mountain East jumped out to a double digit halftime lead and breezed to a 46-31 Mountain Valley Conference victory over Lehighton.

Agatha Drozd led the Cardinals with 16 points.

Jordyn Homyak had 11 points for Lehighton.

JR. HIGH BASKETBALL

9TH GRADE

Tamaqua-Minersville

Tamaqua edged Minersville, 44-43.

Craig Eroh had a game high 14 points while Tanner Kehl added 10 points for the Blue Raiders.

8TH GRADE

Tamaqua-Minersville

Tamaqua won its third game in a row, beating Minersville, 32-29.

Mike Weinert and Adam Bates both had eight points to lead the Raiders.

7TH GRADE

Tamaqua-Minersville

Tamaqua rolled to a 50-27 victory over Minersville.

Leading the way for the Raiders were Brett Kosciolek with 13 points and Zachary Wargula with 10 points.
