Letter to the editor: Didn't disparage players
Dear Editor:
Get the facts Mr. Bennett.
Your Nov. 4 TIMES NEWS attack on my appearance before the Lehighton Area School Board was unwarranted and without substance. As I spoke, I had 60 years of accurate Lehighton past and present baseball records in my hands. In no way did I intentionally or overwise disparage past baseball players. You were not in attendance but foolishly jumped on a newspaper quote never made to the board.
My appearance before the board was predicted by a petition circulated in Lehighton High by certain students. My main concern included the backbiting of Coach Harris and the cruel abuse of his son, Tyler. These attacks passed the norms of educational and human decency.
I have played on many baseball teams as an amateur and professional. I've never been on a team where the players deliberately undermined their coach and a fellow player. That type of activity reveals serious character flaws and must be stopped.
