The Summit Hill Lions recently donated $1,700 to eight local organizations.

During the group's first annual caroling in the park event, held at the gazebo in the middle of Ludlow Park, the Lions presented representatives from the Panther Valley Library, Tamaqua Salvation Army, Carbon County Friends of Animals, Toys for Tots, Summit Hill Historical Society, and Summit Hill Shade Tree Commission, with checks for $200 to help cover expenses. Other recipients who were were not present include the Summit Hill Food Pantry, who received $300; and the Summit Hill Recreation Commission, who received $200.

Ken Vermillion, president of the Summit Hill Lions Club said the group likes to show its support of area organizations.

He added that the Lions pledge a total of $1,200 annually to the Summit Hill Food Pantry. The donation is broken up into four quarterly installments.

Following the presentations, the Lions, as well as a few local Red Hat Society members joined together to sing Christmas carols in the park. They then traveled to seven residents' homes who are shut in and provided them with musical entertainment.
