Lower Towamensing accident injures two

Two persons were hurt in a two-vehicle crash Sunday at 5:06 p.m. on Fireline Road in Lower Towamensing Township.

State police at the Lehighton barracks said Amber M. Rehrig, 20, and Linda K. Bottcher, 62, both of Palmerton, were transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, by the Palmerton EMS corps. Police said the severity of their injuries were not known.

Rehrig was the driver of one of the vehicles while Linda Bottcher was a passenger in a vehicle operated by Richard S. Bottcher, 68, also of Palmerton.

Police said the accident happened near Fireline Road's intersection with Golf Road. Police said Rehrig was driving a 2001 Mazda Protege westbound on Fireline Road and was negotiating a right-hand turn when she lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed. Police said Bottcher was eastbound on Firelilne Road in a 2001 Chevrolet S10, which struck the Mazda as it crossed over into the oncoming mane of the S10.

After the initial collision, police said the Mazda spun arouond and had a secondary collision with a utility pole on the right side of the roadway.

Both vehicles sustained disabling damages.

Police said Rehrig will be cited as a result of the crash.

The Palmerton Fire Department also responded to the scene.
