Successful businesses that exhibit staying power tend to stick with what brought them to the dance.

That's the business model S&G AsphaltService, LLC, of Slatington, has practiced toperfection since itsformation in 1983.

The approach has paid dividends for the company, which has been named Business of the Month by the Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce.

Word of the distinction clearly caught owner Tony Sorrentino Jr. off-guard.

"It was a pleasant surprise," Sorrentino said. "We didn't know that it was going to happen; we're very pleased to be chosen."

Located at 3340 Old Post Road, Sorrentino said the business specializes in paving and fuel coating of commercial and residential projects.

"It's been a journey," he said. "We do dry waste, parking lots, subdivision roads, paving repairs, infrared repairs, cracked ceiling, excavating, playing surfaces, parking lots and driveways."

Sorrentino said the business, which primarily serves customers in Lehigh, Northampton, Bucks, and Berks counties, strives to be different from that of its counterparts.

"When we look at a job site, whether it be commercial or residential, we're looking for best option for the owner, things that make best economic sense," he said. "We do layout and design, so that the paving project functions well and to the best of their interests."

It's that type of attention to detail that Sorrentino believes customers are intrigued by most of all.

"We always coordinate projects in a manner that it doesn't impede the use of their area for an extended amount of time," he said. "We coordinate very well with the owners."

In an effort to stay abreast of new industry trends, Sorrentino said several employees make it a point to attend the National Pavement Maintenance Expo.

"We take our key employees to a paving and seal coating seminar," he said. "It keeps our guys educated and knowledgeable."

Sorrentino said his goal is for the business is to see it stay the course in the years to come.

"If it happens with the right people, we'll expand," he said. "Pretty much my main goals are always doing a good job, because quality is job number one here; make some profit, and keep our valuable workers working."
