Saylorsburg man charged with DUI

Robert Szmitkowski, 62, of Saylorsburg, was arrested by state police at the Lehighton barracks for driving under the influence of alcohol after a one-vehicle accident Dec. 24 at 12:29 p.m. at the intersection of Evergreen Road and Old Route 115 in Ross Township.

Police said he was driving a vehicle that failed to negotiate a right turn on Evergreen Road, left the roadway, struck a stop sign and got stuck in the snow.
