Crash leads to DUI count in Schuylkill
A one-vehicle crash in Schuylkill County has led to a driving under the influence (DUI) charge against the driver. It was one of two DUI-related incidents.
State police at Frackville said the crash occurred about 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, along SR924 in Gilberton.
Troopers said Kevin Abrams, 18, of Frackville, was driving a 1989 Ford truck southbound when he lost control. The truck struck an embankment and then rolled over onto the passenger side.
Abrams was found to be under the influence, troopers said, and was taken to the barracks for a breath test. He will be charged with DUI and underage drinking.
Troopers also reported on Sunday, Nov. 1, about 2:10 a.m. troopers observed a 1996 Dodge Ram pickup truck parked along the east berm of SR61 in New Castle Township with the engine running. Troopers observed the passenger urinating along the road.
The driver was identified as Everett P. Metcalf, 35, of Girardville. He was found to be under the influence.
He failed field sobriety tests and was taken to the barracks for a breath test. He refused the test, troopers said. He will be charged with DUI. His passenger, Kevin Schwalm, 38, also of Girardville, was charged with public drunkenness.
