Hit and run driver sought in Monroe
State police at Lehighton are looking for a hit-and-run driver in Monroe County.
Troopers said the accident occurred along Memorial Drive in Polk Township shortly after midnight on Sunday, Nov. 1. Troopers said a vehicle was traveling north towards Hell Hollow Road and negotiating a left-hand turn at Dotters Corner Union Cemetery when it began to rotate clockwise. The vehicle left the road and rotated 90 degrees before entering a grassy area of the cemetery. The vehicle continued to travel about 90 feet before striking six headstones. The vehicle became struck on one of the headstones.
Troopers said at some time the operator pulled the vehicle out, possibly with a four-by-four truck- type vehicle.
Troopers said the hit- and-run vehicle is believed to be a reddish maroon vehicle with damage to the passenger side and passenger side rear quarter panel as well as the under carriage.
