Divorces granted
Magdalena L. Szlagiewicz, 142 E. High St., Coaldale, was granted a divorce from Piotr K. Kantyka, 613 19th St., Oklahoma City, Okla. They were married May 11, 2002.
Jeffrey A. Tauber, 856 Lizard Creek Road, Andreas, West Penn Township, was granted a divorce from Ingrid R. Tauber, 327 Arlington St., Tamaqua. They were married Sept. 4, 2004.
Dennis W. Schultz was granted a divorce from Bridgette A. Schultz, both of Schuylkill Haven. They were married April 13, 2002.
On probation
Brandon J. Cara, 20, Mahanoy City, was accepted by Judge Cyrus Palmer Dolbin into the Accelerated Rehabilative Disposition (ARD) probation program and placed for 18 months. He will be subjected to special conditions which includes payment of court costs, a $50 per month supervision fee, pay $50 to the Criminal Justice Enhancement Account (CJEA) fund and pay $350 to defray the cost of the program. Cara was chaged by Patrolman Charles Kovalewski, Mahanoy City police, with two counts of burglary of for stolen all terrain vehicles from a garage on Maple Street.
Loses appeal
Phillip Tilghman, 36, Pottsville, appealed to the Pennsylvania Superior Court a sentence imposed by a county judge following his conviction by a jury of possession of a controlled substance, delivery of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal use of a communication facility.
He made a sale of cocaine to an undercover county detective. He as sentenced to serve three to six years in a state correctional institution and two years on probation after he was released from prison. In his appeal he claimed he was wrongfully convicted.
The high court ruled, after review of the trial record, it cannot conclude the trial court abused its descretion in denying him a new trial from which he took the appeal because it found the testimony of the Commonwealth witnesses were consistent in all material aspects.
