JT studies traffic for new stop sign

Published November 13. 2009 05:00PM

Now that the Jim Thorpe Police Department is working out of the borough's new municipal building, police personnel are noticing that the intersection at the corner of 10th and Fern Streets is less safe than they would like.

That announcement was made by new borough Police Chief Joseph Schatz during the council's normal monthly meeting on Thursday evening.

"We've noticed a real heavy influx of traffic that we never realized was there until we moved in here," Schatz told the council. "My officers think we need a stop sign there to make it safer. I think we need a 4-way stop."

Borough council President John McGuire said that a study would have to be conducted before the borough could change the traffic pattern at the intersection, but suggested the police committee study the situation and make a recommendation at a future meeting.

This is the second meeting that the intersection has been discussed as a possible safety problem in the borough.
