Garbage collection

The Thursday run for garbage collection will be taken on Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Those residents are asked to make sure their garbage is out on the curb on Wednesday.

Woman's club

The Christmas dinner for the Nesquehoning Woman's Club will be held on Monday, Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Macaluso's Restaurant.

Ginny Novy, president, will conduct a short meeting. Members are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for the food pantry in town. Nan Kevilly will be collecting the food and taking it to the church.

Since there is no meeting in January and February, anyone who would like to donate a food item during those months can drop them off at the home of Carol Zickler anytime.

Golden Agers

The meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers was held on Nov. 9 opened with a prayer for servicemen. A brief history of Veterans Day was read and a moment of silence was observed in memory of the victims of the Fort Hood disaster. Minnie Kennedy led the singing of patriotic songs. Mary Ann Stotelmyer read entertaining verses on coffee addiction.

The chorus visited the guests at Hometown Nursing Home on Veterans Day. On Dec. 16 the group will visit Edgemont Personal Care Home in Lansford.

Angelo and Mary Riccette were congratulated on the occasion of their 64th wedding anniversary. Mary Ann and Frank Karnish recently welcomed a new grandson.

There will be no meetings held in the remainder of November and December. The next meeting will be Jan. 11 when December and January birthdays will be celebrated. Hospitality for January will be Angelo and Mary Riccette, Irene Hudasky, Betty Marek, Shirley Pavlick, and Marion Schaffer.

Thanksgiving dinner

A free Thanksgiving dinner will be offered by Meed's United Methodist Church on Sunday, Nov. 22 with servings at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Come out to enjoy the meal and fellowship and share all of the blessings the past year has brought.

In order to prepare, the church is asking that you call (570) 669-6142 or 669-9346 to make reservations for the time of the seating you would like to attend.
