New equipment for CCTI students
The Carbon Career & Technical Institute Joint Operating Committee during its regular monthly meeting, held on November 19, approved a number of motions that will see some new equipment coming into the school.
The equipment is part of the current three year equipment plan already in place. The money for the purchase will be taken from the Building/Renovation and Expansion Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E) budget.
The new equipment that will be purchased includes a new HAAS VF2 milling machine, two retrofitted Bridgeport milling machines and a Proto TRAK CNC lathe. The Graphic Design program will receive new Apple computers and equipment used for curriculum at a cost not surpassing $37,000.
One related motion was tabled at the board meeting. The JOC was asked to consider purchasing three computer servers at a cost that would not surpass ten thousand dollars. Additional equipment includes eight network switches which have eight 48-ports. This cost is not to exceed $25,000. Council members felt they needed more information about these purchases before they could authorize them.
The hardware quotes are based upon pricing from PEPPM, the Pennsylvania Education Purchasing Program for Microcomputers program, which provides a technical bidding and purchasing program system used by educational institutions throughout the state. The FF&E budget, which is already built into the cost of the renovations underway at the school, allows for the purchase of the equipment without increasing the CCTI operating budget.
