Stimulus funds to municipalities

Local municipalities stand to receive federal stimulus money for a variety of projects. Among the recipients and projects are:

East Penn Township: $2,917,485

Project details: Sanitary sewer collection system that will serve 97 homes. The project began in July and is expected to be completed by June 1, 2010.

Jim Thorpe Borough: $1,470,000

Project details: Replacement of existing water meters with radio read units, approximately 1,700 residential and 47 commercial water meters; purchase data collection and host software and interface units. The project will affect 1,689 customers. The project is expected to begin in early January and be finished in June, 2010.

Lansford-Coaldale Joint Water Authority: $1,500,000

Project details: Replace about 3,100 feet of pipe; demolish a tank and replace it with a 715,000-gallon tank; refurbish another tank. The project, which will serve about 3,072 households, began this month (November) and is expected to be finished in October 2010.

Lansford: $31,000

Paving projects funded through Community Development Block Grants.
