Hit and run driver sought in Monroe

A hit and run driver is being sought in Monroe County.

State police at Lehighton said the accident occurred about 1:55 p.m. on Oct. 27 along Kunkletown Road in Ross Township. Troopers said Ashley R. Bittenbender, 22, of Kunkletown, was eastbound and attempting to turn off into a driveway when her 1987 Chevrolet S10 was struck in the rear by another vehicle whose driver then fled the scene. Bittenbender was not injured in the incident. The hit and run vehicle is believed to be a Ford.

Troopers also investigated a crash about 7 a.m. on Oct. 27 along Upper Smith Gap Road, in Ross Township. Troopers said Justin T. Vernon, 22, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt eastbound when the car left the road and struck an embankment on the south side. Vernon was not injured in the mishap.
