Adult day care

The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center will once again sponsor a mitten tree to benefit the Salvation Army. Donations of scarves, hats, mittens, gloves and socks will be accepted through Dec. 4.

Activities planned for the month of December include: Dec. 2, Salvation Army and foot doctor visit; Dec. 8, church service; Dec. 9, craft day; Dec. 10 and 23, bingo; Dec. 11, Christmas entertainment by Andrew Roblin; Dec. 15, cooking class; Dec. 16, sing along with Audrey Christ and Christmas party; Dec. 21, visit with St. Jerome's kindergarten class and birthday party; Dec. 30, New Year's Eve party.

In addition to weekly sing-alongs and social games, hairstyling and manicure services are available. Both require advance notice.

Daily activities include exercise, reality orientation, remotivational and reminiscent therapy, as well as breakfast, lunch and a snack.

TOPS

The Tamaqua Chapter of Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) meets every Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m., in the Tamaqua Salvation Army Community Center, 105 W. Broad St. The meeting includes a short business session and a program.

Linda Hosler was presented the TOPS Loser of the Week Award at the Nov. 18 meeting. Mary Ann Dahm conducted the business session and provided words of inspiration entitled "Expect the difficult." Dahm also provided a program on ways to sensibly start a diet, stay on course and strive to succeed.

TOPS is a nonprofit weight loss support group for men and women of all ages.

This week's meeting has been cancelled due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The annual Christmas party will be held Dec. 2 at the La Dolce Casa Restaurant.

SS. Peter and Paul

The choirs of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church will rehearse on Wednesday this week. The youth choir will rehearse from 6-7 p.m. while the Adult Choir will rehearse from 7-8 p.m.

Parish calendars will be available, in the social hall, following all Masses this weekend. Christmas wafers will also be available at all Masses during Advent.

The parish children's Christmas party is scheduled for Dec. 5, while the Ladies Auxiliary Christmas party will be held on Dec. 6 at La Dolce Casa.

St. Peter's

The Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, there will be rehearsals for the Sunday School's Christmas program. Musical rehearsal will be held at 10:30 a.m., while those with speaking parts will rehearse at 11:15 a.m. The Cub Scout Den will meet at 6 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, Women's Lectionary Bible study at 6 p.m.; Thursday, Prayer group meets at 5 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 5, Youth group will begin visiting the home bound at 2:30 p.m., then participate in a roller skating party.

The choirs will not rehearse this week. next week's schedule will include: Cherubs at 6:30 p.m.; Junior Choir at 7 p.m.; and Senior Choir at 7:45 p.m.
