AOH delivers food baskets to needy
Members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), Jim Thorpe's "Alec Campbell, Mauch Chunk Division #1" met together last Saturday and prepared Thanksgiving Day food baskets to be delivered to each one of the nine Catholic parishes in Carbon County.
Each of the baskets contained a turkey, canned vegetables, stuffing mix, instant potatoes, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin bread mix all the trimmings for a hearty holiday meal for a needy family.
The nine parishes receiving the Thanksgiving Day food baskets are : Immaculate Conception and St. Joseph, both in Jim Thorpe; St. Peter the Fisherman in Lake Harmony; SS Peter and Paul in Lehighton; St. Katharine Drexel in Lansford; St. Francis of Assisi in Nesquehoning; Sacred Heart in Palmerton; St. Joseph in Summit Hill; and Our Lady of Lourdes in Weatherly.
In keeping with the AOH's motto of "Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity", in addition to gathering and paying for the food and making up the baskets, the members themselves also personally delivered the food baskets to each parish.
It will be the decision of the pastor of each parish to decide which family will receive the Thanksgiving dinner.
