Monroe driver facing charges
A Monroe County driver is facing charges after he fled the scene of a rear-end type crash. State police at Fern Ridge said the accident occurred about 7:18 p.m. on Nov. 18 along Sugar Hollow Road, in Chestnuthill Township.
Troopers said the crash occurred as Martin B. Schmitt, 22, of Stroudsburg, struck the rear of a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Gertrude M. Eckert, 70, of Effort, with the front of his 1992 Mercury Topaz. After impact Schmitt fled the scene. He was later located and told troopers he fled because he had no insurance. He will be cited, troopers said.
Schmitt was not injured but her passenger, Keith G. Eckert, 44, also of Effort, sustained a minor injury but did not require medical attention.
