Nesquehoning driver facing DUI

Published November 25. 2009 05:00PM

A Nesquehoning driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a traffic stop in his hometown.

Borough officer Carl Breiner stopped a vehicle on Sept. 29 at 2:17 a.m. near the intersection of Center and Mermon streets after he observed it failing to stop for a stop sign. Breiner followed the vehicle and it failed to stop at the intersection of Center and Almond.

Breiner made a traffic stop and the driver was identified as Jason Brunda. Brunda showed signs of intoxication and the odor of burnt marijuana could be detected coming from the vehicle. Brunda denied smoking marijuana claiming he let friends do it in his car.

Brunda failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI. A blood test revealed he was over the legal limit for alcohol and also tested positive for controlled substances.
