Boroughs throughout the state, such as the 12 in Carbon County, now have the right to appropriate funds for fire protection to fire companies which serve the borough, under legislation now served into law by the governor. The new law permits boroughs to levy a special tax to cover the cost of fire protection but limits it to three mills. Should the borough wish to raise the tax above the three mill limitation, the issue would have to be submitted to the voters of the borough for approval.
