NL rolls in field hockey
Northern Lehigh rolled to an easy field hockey victory on Thursday while the Tamaqua girls soccer and Marian volleyball teams continued their outstanding seasons.
FIELD HOCKEY
Salisbury-No. Lehigh
Northern Lehigh beat up on Colonial League foe Salisbury, winning by a score of 9-0.
Taylor Farber and Brittany Brogan each had two goals for the Bulldogs (5-5-3). Faber also had an assist.
Teammates Alishia Bowers, Kelsey Gallagher, Danielle Dooley, Jess Buzinski and Kayla Brensinger also scored goals .
Northern Lehigh goal keeper Nicole Pitosky made two saves en route to earning the shutout.
GIRLS SOCCER
Tamaqua-Pottsville
A pair of second half goals were all Tamaqua needed to stay undefeated as it posted a 2-0 Schuylkill League victory over Pottsville.
Lauren Mateyak puts the Blue Raiders (10-0, 8-0) on the scoreboard with a unassisted goal. Teammate Kailee Rottet added some insurance with an unassisted goal late in the game.
Chey Bates posted her fifth shutout of the season by stopping all four Tide shots.
U. Dauphin-Jim Thorpe
Upper Dauphin scored three second-half goals and ran away from Jim Thorpe for a 4-1 Schuylkill League victory.
Chelsea Smelas scored the Olympians' only goal a minute into the second half, which at the time tied the game at 1-1.
VOLLEYBALL
Williams Valley-Marian
Marian knocked off Williams Valley in straight games for a 25-11, 25-10, 25-13 Schuylkill League victory.
Taylor Mele had a big night for the Fillies with 26 digs and nine aces. Katie Collevechio added 21 assists, four digs and two kills.
Also playing well were Devin Parambo (19 digs, eight kills, four aces), Abby Owsinski (nine kills, three digs, two blocks) and Marykate Sherkness (nine kills).
Marian moves to 10-1 overall and 8-1 in the league.
Marian captured the JV game with a 25-14, 25-7 win.
Weatherly-U. Dauphin
Upper Dauphin posted a 25-17, 25-22, 21-25, 25-17 win over visiting Weatherly.
Brittney Hinkle led the Wreckers with 36 digs, nine kills and two assists. Alyssa Kephart (13 kills, 12 digs, four blocks), Rachel Kester (14 digs, 12 assists), Sarah Dolinsky (19 digs, three kills, two blocks), Alicia Panzarella (23 digs, five blocks) and Sam Strazak (14 digs, eight assists) also contributed for the Wreckers.
Panther Valley-Blue Mt.
Blue Mountain walked off the courts with a 25-23, 11-25, 26-24, 25-17 Schuylkill League victory over visiting Panther Valley.
Christa Mantz led the Panthers with 17 kills, seven service points and 10 digs. Carly Markovich (31 assists, seven blocks and six service points), Chrissy Micholik (10 kills, seven service points, five digs), Tricia Janowiak (six kills, 10 service points), Katie Zulic (seven kills, nine service points, 11 digs) and Amy Yusella (five kills, nine service points and three aces) added some fine numbers for PV.
In the JV game, Panther Valley won 25-20, 25-22.
Pine Grove-Jim Thorpe
Jim Thorpe went the distance against Pine Grove, but fell in five games 25-12, 23-25, 25-17, 23-25, 15-9.
Brittany Holland led the Lady Olympians with 11 kills. Teammate Marissa Cantelmi helped out with 21 assists, 15 service points and five aces while Jill Andrews added 25 digs.
Tamaqua-Shamokin
Shamokin swept Tamaqua, 25-16, 25-17, 25-23, in Schuylkill League action.
Paige Baddick had three service points and 11 assists for the Raiders. Stacy Wallace (six kills, three blocks, five digs) and Sarah Paluck (thee kills, five digs) also played well.
Tamaqua falls to 5-4 on the season.
Tamaqua won the JV match, 2-0.

Millersburg/Halifax
Panther Valley won its last golf match of the year, knocking off Millersburg/Halifax 358-398.
Mike Luckenbill (88) and Mike Hadesty (89) led the Panthers.
The Panthers end the season with an 11-2 record.

On Wednesday, David DeFiore recorded two goals and an assist to help Tamaqua post a 3-2 Schuylkill League victory over Upper Dauphin.
Nate Billet added the other Blue Raider score.
Zack Lakitsky grabbed 10 saves in front of the Tamaqua net.
GIRLS TENNIS
PM East-Pleasant Valley
Pocono Mt. East picked up its seventh league victory with a 5-2 win over Pleasant Valley in MVC action.
The Lady Bears (4-5 MVC) had their two wins come from their doubles teams as Kristin Corcoran and Cady Hurtzig and teammates Sarah Olah and Rachel Siegfried pulled out wins.

Tamaqua-PM West
Tamaqua opened its season with a 22-6 victory over Pocono Mountain West.
The Raiders got three rushing touchdowns from Tyler Hope.
The Raider defense was led by Nate Edmunds, Zach Zuccatti, Nick Coccio, and Trevor Skripko.
Tamaqua-Lehighton
Tamaqua beat the Lehighton, 20-6.
Tyler Hope returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown for the Raiders. Tyler Skripko added a rushing touchdown, while his brother Trevor Skripko returned an interception for a touchdown.
The Raider defense was led by Nate Edmunds, Cody Houser, Dustin Vandermartin, Zach Zuccatti, and Nick Coccio.
Tamaqua-PM East
Tamaqua routed Pocono Mountain East, 34-6.
Tyler Skripko and Dustin Vandermartin each had a rushing touchdown for the Raiders. Joey Marcin threw two touchdown passes, one to Peter Baddick and another to Austin Miorelli.
The Raider defense was led by an interception return for a touchdown by Jake Kunkel.
Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe
Tamaqua defeated Jim Thorpe, 28-18.
The offensive line turned in a dominating performance paving the way for Tyler Hope, who had two rushing touchdowns and Nate Edmunds who had one. Joey Marcin added a touchdown pass to Dustin Vandermartin.
The Raider defense was led by Nick Coccio, Zach Zuccatti, Cody Houser, and Ernie Shilko.
Tamaqua is now 4-0 on the season.
